1939 Vintage Crochet Pattern Spider Wheel Bedspread, Chair Set, Scarf, Centerpiece, and Doilies

1939 Spider Wheel Bedspread, Chair Set, Scarf,  Centerpiece, and Doilies Free Vintage Crochet Pattern. Unusual look and versatile motifs assembly for many other possibilities. Made with size 10 Mercerized Crochet Cotton Thread. There are other photos and diagrams at the end to complete the other pieces.



Double Bed Size Approximately 81 x 104 inches

MATERIALS:
33 skeins Mercerized Crochet Cotton Thread - size 10
Steel Crochet Hook Size 8

GAUGE: Each large motif should measure 3 1/4 inches from solid edge to solid edge through center.

LARGE MOTIF: Ch 5, coin with a sl st into a ring.

1st RND: Ch 5, 1 dc in ring, * ch 2, 1 dc in same ring; repeat from * 3 times, ch 1, join with a sc in 3rd st of ch 5 at beginning of round (6 spaces in round).

2nd RND: Ch 3, work 3 dc under joining sc (first space), ch 2 and 6 dc in each of the next 5 spaces, ch 2, work 2 dc in same space as first group of dc, join with a sl sp in top st of ch 3 at beginning of round.

3rd RND: Ch 3, 1 dc in top of next dc, * 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc below, ch 3, 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc in top of each of the next 2 dc; repeat from * around, end with 1 dc around post of each of the last 2 dc, join with a sl st in top st of ch 3 at beginning of round.

4th RND: Ch 3, 1 dc in top of next dc below, * ch 2, 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, ch 4, 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in top of each of the next 2 dc; repeat from * around, end with ch 2, join with a sl st in top st of ch 3 at beginning of round, sl st in top of next dc, sl st in next sp.

5th RND: Ch 3, 1 dc in same sp as last sl st, * 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, ch 5, 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, 2 dc in next (ch 2) space, 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, 2 dc in next space; repeat from * around, end with 1 dc around post of ch 3 at beginning of round below, 1 dc around post of next dc, join with sl st in top of ch 3 at beginning of round.

6th RND: Ch 3, 1 dc in top of next dc, * 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, ch 6, 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc in top of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc in top of each of the next 2 dc; repeat from * around, join as before.

7th RND: Work same as 6th rnd, having ch 7 between patterns.

8th RND: Work same as 6th rnd, having ch 8 between patterns.

FINAL RND: Ch 3, 1 dc in top of next dc, * 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, ch 8, sl st in 4th ch from hook (picot), ch 4 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc in top of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc around the post of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc in top of each of the next 2 dc; repeat from * around, join as before and fasten off thread. This completes 1 large motif, make 914 of these motifs.

SMALL MOTIF: Ch 5, join with a sl st into a ring.

1st RND: Ch 5, 1 dc in ring, ch 2, a 2nd dc in rihg, ch 2 and a 3rd dc in ring.

2nd ROW: Ch 3, turn, work 6 dc in first sp, ch 2 6 dc in next sp, ch 2, 7 dc in last sp.

3rd RND: Ch 3 turn, skip first dc below, * 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc in top of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, ch 3; repeat from * across, end with 1 dc around post of the last 2 dc below, 1 dc in to p st of turning ch.

4th RND: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc below, * inserting hook from back, work 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in top of each of the next 2 dc, ch 2, inserting hook from back, work 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, ch 4; repeat from * across, inserting hook from back, end with 1 dc around post of each of the last 2 dc, 1 dc in top st of turning ch below.

5th RND: Ch 3, turn, sk the first dc below, * 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, 2 dc in next sp, 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, 2 dc in next sp, 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, ch 5; repeat from * across, end as in 3rd row.

6th RND: Ch 3, turn, skip the first dc below, * inserting hook from back, work 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc in top of each of the next 2 dc, inserting hook from back, work 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc in top of each of the next 2 dc, inserting hook from back, work 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, ch 6; repeat from * around, end as in 4th row.

7th RND: Ch 3, turn, skip the first dc below, * 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc in top of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc in top of each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc around post of each of the next 2 dc, ch 7; repeat from * across, end as in 3rd row.

8th RND: Work same as 6th row, having ch 8 between patterns.

FINAL RND: Work same as 7th row, having ch 8, picot, ch 4, between patterns and fasten off thread. This completes 1 small motif, make 28 of these motifs.


Arrange large motifs and small motifs as shown on illustration and detail diagram, 15 large motifs and 14 small motifs in width for bottom of spread and 32 large motifs in length; finish top of spread with 14 small motifs. Sew solid edges from wrong side with an overhand stitch, taking up top thread from each edge st only and being careful to have seams as elastic as the crochet fabric. Darn in all ends neatly.
